Recap....

I have done a little blog surfing today and need to comment from a fellow blogger about a post she wrote. Without naming me, she indicated about my findings about aspartame based upon one article I read. I want her and all of you to know one thing. I have studied this for a couple of years now. I have not simply read one article and blogged about my new findings. My opinions then are created by lots of research and are backed by some of the leading Dr.s around the world. To name one, Dr. Russell Blalock who is a neurosurgeon and has taken this battle on. Like him, I don't just fight against aspartame but many other food poisons like food dye and MSG. I need to talk about this because as Dr. Blalock warned, the only way we will win this fight is through blogs. The government in America is too controlled by money and the FDA works for that money. Many other countries have banned these additives that we still ingest. How come they can know that these toxins kill and America still says its OK? Money , dear friends. It is cheaper and makes food taste better. We as moms need to know better. This is my mission. For any out there who want to ignore this or only read one article supported by the FDA saying that it is ok, you are not doing your homework. Read the information from the homeopathic societies, from research Dr.s like Andrew Weil and Blalock. They get the whole picture. It is so much easier to just ignore the problems but I can't do that. You can't argue with me that food additives like the ones I have listed are in any way good for you. There is no case against that. That is not my opinion. A fact. For more information other than my opinions, please check out this article from Dr. Blalock here.

I agree with you 100%. I used to work for a holistic chiropractor who practised kinesiology. It's amazing the things you learn when you turn to traditional medicine and healing. The government really does cash in on things like this and that's why it will never be fixed - they will lose too much money.

Everything I have read talks about "high" intake of such things or "excessive" amounts of these can lead to this that and the other. Moderation in all things people. Try your best to limit when you can. It takes a lot of work and energy to commit to doing this. That can be difficult if you or a family member already face the burdening affects of illness. Taking it one step at a time will eventually lead to long term commitment and I think that supportive family members like your spouse or even your friends can make a huge difference too. I have read several articles involving MS. They don't know what causes it and they don't have a cure but they do have lot's of "ideas" relating to diet, environment etc. Lack of Vitamin D is HUGE for people with MS. I don't believe (but that is my own personal opinion that I am entitled to have) that aspartame or MSG is the direct link that causes MS but I do know that some research has shown that it can cause "MS Like" symptoms. They call it, MS Syndrome. That is of course if you are an excessive in-taker aspartame which I am not. Do I love diet coke? yes! Do I drink it on occasion? Yes. Do I try not to? Yes. Do I think by drinking it it will make my MS worse? No. why? because I drink it on occasion. Eating healthy can only be a benefit to us all regardless of our health status. For those of us who are already battling disease we just need to be more diligent to the effects these ingredients can have on our bodies. It may or may not be the cause but It can only help and it won't hurt to try! I have never seen any research indicating that drinking lots of water and eating organic whole fruits and veggies causes cancer. Would I be surprised 5 years down the road if all scientists came out and said aspartame, red dye & msg cause MS or cancer etc? No. We are here on this earth to govern ourselves. To find out for ourselves what is good and bad. What works for me might not work for someone else but thanks to people like Shari and her blog she allows us the opportunity to THINK. Maybe what she says at times might bother you or likewise your comments might bother her. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you aren't being mean which it looks like so far no one has been. Shari has taken the first step for us. Her purpose for me always has been to "enlighten" us. Make us think. Or think twice. Then do as we will. My recent quest has been to stop eating sugar. The first time I tried this I drove down to the bakery and ate 4 donuts. Baby steps....baby steps! Thanks Shari for all your hard work and dedication to making us all better individuals, wives and mothers. (p.s. mike, you know where I live. this comment was not meant to injure your wife in anyway shape or form :))

Thanks for the comment, Megan. Baby steps, exactly and I am in no way perfect. I also don't want anyone to think that I believe aspartame alone causes MS, I believe it contributes to those who already may have the tendency or other illnesses. In that case, if you have that disease or others like it, a little amount can hurt. I know with Tate if he eats one little thing with a dye or other harmful chemical, he takes a downward spiral. Even the slightest thing. As he gets better, it doesnt make as much of a difference. The only way to truly test this is to have a food journal and write down when there are bad spells and what may have helped trigger it. That's how I figured out Tate. Not everyone is affected by the same thing. With that said, I do believe in moderation but not in every situation. A damaged body doesnt have the same fighting power as a healthy one.

One more thing.... regarding high intake...you may think that you are only intaking a little aspartame but combine that with all of the other ingredients that are harmful. MSG is in almost everything. Chips, crackers, fast food, drinks, etc. A little of everything is a high intake. Research looks at one little item, like pestisides on one apple, not looking at how many pesticides on how many things one person eats a day. That is high intake. Not the one apple. It is Moderation would me eating organically and healthy with homemade food all week and then going out on the weekend for food and a diet coke. That is moderation. There is a difference in the definition

sorry for the gramatical errors, Don't know how I messed up those last sentences. You get the pictures. I don't know how to go back and edit.

I totally agree. For some people a disease may be "latent" in the body and certain things (food, chemicals, environment, stress) may trigger that disease or illness to become full blown. And by the way, I think your perfect and wish I had your diligence, persistence and skin! You have gorgeous skin!

Shari Goodman said...

Thanks, but certainly not perfect! If I had to totally go off sugar I think I would pick the disease! I could do without most anything else but a girl needs her chocolate! Good luck and hope to see you guys next week.

Ha Ha! If you ever find yourself in a bind, pick MS. It's no so bad. :) See you next week! The weather has been fabulous!!!

I have done much of the same research Shari, and agree 100%. You will ALWAYS find a "research article" disputing what you feel in your heart is true, always. There are a million different ways to justify and quantify the "safety" of these neurotoxins (for profit reasons). Does that change the effect on the body? No. I am blessed with my children, one of whom has Autism (as you know) because I would not know or care as much about these awful chemicals were it not for them. But, CHOICE, everyone has it. We CHOOSE what we put in our bodies and unless a person is open to the possibility, they will not be receptive. But, thank goodness you are putting yourself out there and spreading the word about what is really going on and how bad this stuff is. One day we will have a world that cares more about preserving health as it does about making money and selling more products at such a high cost to health.....that is my greatest wish anyways.....

I also agree with you on this issue, but wondered what you have found out about Splenda?

Shari Goodman said...

I just read a few articles about splenda and none are very pleasing about the sugar substitute. In fact many people reported severe stomach problems. My opinion, stay away from the new processed things and stick to what is natural only in moderation. Raw cane sugar and honey are so much better. At least we know what sugar does to a body. The results still aren't in for splenda and other new sweetners.

Good points, thanks for the time you put into this research. Thanks for the info! I learned in my nutrition classes that everything in it's natural form is best :)
