More on Agave

http://www.living-foods.com/articles/agave.html

Here is another great article on agave. To me it confirms my speculations. I should have gone with my gut on this one. It makes sense. Back to honey and fruit sweetened things for me. I still use the good old raw sugar, brown sugar and maple in moderation also. I am sure that agave in moderation is fine too. I just don't want to spend a ton of money on a sugar product that isn't any better than the regular stuff. Still open for comments.

Wow, that is interesting. I have not yet started using it on a regular basis, so thanks for doing some of the leg work for me... Heidi Jackson

Shari, have you tried Sucanat from Azure Standard?

thank you for this! my SIL swears that agave is so much better and chastises me for still using sugar and honey. thank you for the resources to confirm my suspicions.

Thanks for the resources. I have friends say agave is soooo much better than sugar. I have always wondered about it, I am glad to have the info you shared.

What do you use when you make cookies? Please tell me you DO bake cookies once in a while. :)

I definitely make cookies. Just in moderation, maybe every few weeks or so. I use recipes with butter, no shortening and I use the mixture of white sugar and brown sugar. I have made cookies with honey but a good chocolate chip cookie just isn't the same. Raw sugar works also if whirled in blender. I figure since I don't eat them regularly, who cares if there is sugar in them. Moderation is always the key. I am never going to cut sugar out. Never. You have to live a bit. You eat more of the good and the body will flush out the occassional bad.

I'm not sure what to think!!! I hate how there is always conflicting info about everything. Here are two other things to read that support using agave, if you're interested:

and the original article she talks about is...

It's so hard to know what to believe! I've used agave a little bit and would like to think it's ok, but maybe it's safer just to hold off and use honey like you said. I don't know!!!

I had been wondering the same thing. But just was going with what the advertisements were telling me.

Yes, what about Xagave?

So glad I found your blog through kara through Reachel. You really have me questioning things!

Xagave is processed better than some others but I am still not sure about agave in general. Wish I had concrete evidence either way.
